Positive: Charming B&B a short drive out from Chalais, with a hearty breakfast and husband and wife owner / operator who made up for their basic English in friendliness and helpfulness, including on the first night when we checked in very late in the evening due to flight delays. Cute pool and spacious, comfortable rooms with plenty of personality, with a family of chickens on site for a reliable morning wake up call!
Negative: Location is rather remote - not walkable from the nearest town, and not much else to do on site

Positive: The owners welcomed us to the property. Breakfast was good and the fruit salad was lovely. The house was characterful and unique. We appreciate their eclectic style and the history of the house. The garden and surroundings were very attractive and it was nice to see the chickens and their chicks. The trampoline for the children was a nice addition. Ample parking spaces. A natural and beautiful location.
Negative: Our beds were dipped and overly soft. The covers felt damp to the touch. We had crickets and other bugs on the bed. There were lots of mosquitoes in the room which were hiding behind the many curtains, ornaments and lamps. (Too many for guest accommodation really) We closed all the windows to stop more bugs coming in but then the room was hot. We asked for fans which we eventually received which then helped us sleep better. There were lots of spiders and cobwebs in the room.
Summary: Attractive house and setting but not great for bugs.

Positive: Great value, a step back in time! Really fabulous character room with a historic feel and a beautiful garden setting and pool. Super shower and bathroom too.
Negative: Breakfast was delicious. Simple but perfect, great coffee and delight to breakfast al fresco on the terrace. Hosts were super attentive and kind.

Positive: Very comfortable room with large walk in shower. Tea and coffee provided in the room and spacious fridge. Host and hostess very welcoming and convivial. Breakfast was plentiful with freshly prepared fruit salad, along with croissants, bread and home made jams. Malcom, the family cocker spaniel was the star of the show! A real sweetheart.

Positive: We loved everything! Marise and Robert are excellent and very friendly. We were happy that even with our poor French skills we had the priviledge to have conversations with them over breakfast. The decor is amazing! Really good taste and very homely feeling. We took the room that was suitable for dogs (the red one) and we had so much space! The bed was the most comfortable one that we’ve had during our 5 weeks car trip in different countries. The garden is so dreamy and to be able to walk with the dogs around was so good for them. They were definitely the happiest here. The breakfast is great! Fresh croissants, bread, butter, jams and the fruit salad was soooo good! Bonus was to have Malcom (the hosts’ dog) with us, he’s sweet. We cannot wait to return here, especially during the warm days as we saw there is a pool. Thank you Marise and Robert!!
